Throughout the country, ASG has become synonymous with charitable acts of Sewing. The list below from National is a guide to many Community Service Projects you might like to sew. Please be aware that our projects might require different sizes to those in this list.
Community Service, although not a requirement by National, is a very rewarding expression of our love of sewing. Being able to give to our community by contributing to the quality of life of others in need, has become intrinsic to the Hampton Roads Chapter. This is done through a wide variety of projects, helping many hospitals, shelters and charity raffles.
A chapter can decide to do a chapter-wide project and/or neighborhood groups can initiate projects on their own.
NITA YEARY has created a delightful way to add pizazz to your serged pillow cases. Choosing a decorative embroidery stitch on your straight stitch machine, simply top stitch the serged seam between hem and body toward the body or towards the hem .; Use a contrasting thread if the fabric is figured. If plain, use color on color for a very elegant look. It makes a standard case look awesome!!
Please, please pin, staple or affix firmly to items you turn in a note with your NAME, name of GROUP, NUMBER and KIND of ITEM, and DATE submitted. Often the items reported to me by e-mail are turned in well after the fact. This helps to avoid counting items twice, or being unable to determine who made them.
NOTE: when making top hems on any of the bags, unless serging, please turn raw edge under at least 1/4" and then measure for hem.
